Juraj (born in Bojnice, region Horná Nitra) took up the pipes while at university in Bratislava. After graduating as mechanical engineer, he started full-time bagpipe making in 2003. Since 2006 he is the Slovakia's only professional in this field. He takes efforts to make his bagpipes as easy and trouble-free as possible. This proved instrumental in the “second revival” of Slovak bagpipes, enabling many children to start playing at a very young age.

As a piper, DuFek specialized in the styles of Ponitrie and Kysuce, was a member of folk-world music bands such as Keltieg and Šafran, collaborated with SĽUK and participated in several international projects. In 2009 he founded Spojené huky Slovenska, the first Slovak bagpipe band, and since 2013 he has been a member of the Folk and Bass Orchestra. In 2023, he founded the folk band Hučava, highly praised in Slovakia after its debut at the GaitaFolia Festival in Palmela.

On stage, Juraj DuFek performs accompanied by Miroslava, who adds violin and voice to his performances. As a singer, Miroslava is influenced by the singing style of Helena Záhradníková, from her native Kysuce region in northern Slovakia.
