An open workshop where participants can get their first taste of Indian tabla
Instructor: RAHIS BHARTI, Artistic Director of DHOAD, is a musician from Jaipur, India, and a seventh-generation member of a family of court musicians who performed for India’s great rulers, also known as “Maharajas.” From a very young age, Rahis was captivated by traditional music and dance, which have become both his life’s work and his greatest joy. He has been one of the leading promoters of traditional Rajasthani music and dance. His projects pay homage to this rich ancestral culture; his musical heritage was passed down by his father and grandfather.
Driven by this rich legacy, Rahis’s work keeps Rajasthan’s important heritage alive, bringing it to audiences around the world. Rahis Bharti is the creator and director of numerous shows performed by the Bollywood Masala Orchestra – Spirit of India, the Jaipur Maharaja Brass Band, Dhoad Gypsies of Rajasthan, Chalaang, and many others. He has performed over 2,500 shows in 110 countries. Rahis Bharti was honored as a “Cultural Ambassador of Rajasthan” by UNESCO in recognition of his contribution to building bridges of friendship between India and more than 110 countries around the world.
