Sopa de Pedra is a musical research group composed of 10 women who, since their youth, have been creating original a cappella arrangements of work songs, protest songs, and rural folk songs. Their goal of bringing people together and telling the story of a people’s lives through traditional music has led the group to revive the richness of the country’s polyphonic heritage, creating a fusion of tradition and modernity. Their voices and minimal use of percussion echo a memory that transcends time, in a musical project that deconstructs the idea of mere heritage preservation by challenging and renewing its own richness.

On their debut album, “Ao Longe Já Se Ouvia” (2017), they address themes such as immigration, survival, motherhood, and hard labor in the countryside, celebrating history as a space for both homage and invention while reinterpreting collective memory.

The second album, “Do Claro ao Breu” (2022), consists of two full-length tracks that propose a journey dividing day and night. Side A, featuring verses by the poet Eugénio de Andrade, represents the day and explores themes such as the seasons, the earth, and cycles; while Side B delves into the dark, nocturnal universe of fears and superstitions from the pagan popular imagination.

The group has performed at festivals such as the Bardentreffen Festival (Nuremberg, Germany, 2022), the Arrée Voce Festival (Brittany, France, 2022), and the Triennale Milano Voci dal Mondo Reale - Fondation Cartier (Paris, 2022), Théâtre du Châtelet (Paris, 2022), Expo Dubai (2020), Womex Opening Concert (Porto, 2021), FMM Sines (2017), and Primavera Sound (Porto, 2014). They have performed in concerts and appeared on albums by artists such as Ana Moura, Manel Cruz, Júlio Pereira, Retimbrar, Amélia Muge, Lula Pena, Joana Gama, Daniel Pereira Cristo, José Manuel David, José Salgueiro, and Cramol, and have composed soundtracks for films by Clara Pais & Daniel Fawcett and Artur Camp.
