Baque Flores do Porto

Brazil / Portugal

Speaker 1

Baque Flores do Porto is a percussion group that plays and dances Maracatu de Baque Virado in the city of Porto, performing collectively with commitment, respect, and honor for their ancestors and the Maracatus—the Nation of Pernambuco. Occasionally, they also participate in other popular cultural expressions, such as ciranda, coco, mangue-beat, etc. The group was founded in November 2021 by Brazilian immigrants who were already immersed in traditional popular culture in Brazil. Baque’s main objectives are to practice, study, and promote Afro-Brazilian culture in Portugal, as well as to contribute to and strengthen the cultural scene in the city of Porto.
